The holidays are a great time for spending time with friends and family, stuffing yourself with good food and tasty treats, and playing some great PC games. What better time to play games full of wintery and Christmas-y iconography than the last month of the year. After much deliberation we’ve put together 5 games you should dive into that feel like the holidays. Grab your favorite hot beverage and a comfy blanket, it’s time to play some cozy winter games.
Alan Wake II
Ok so this one may not be the most cozy or wintery game, in fact it can be pretty terrifying at times, but Remedy’s follow up to the original Alan Wake is simply too good to not play this year. A culmination of all of Remedy’s best attributes – Alan Wake II delivers in so many different aspects that it’s no wonder many games critics felt this game was one of the best to come out in 2023. Which is saying a lot because 2023 has been packed with amazing experiences like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Baldur’s Gate 3. The game fluctuates between slow burn psychological horror to action packed sequences – punctuated with incredible visuals and best in class art direction and audio design. Alan Wake II is a treat for every sense , well except taste, don’t go licking your monitor. Alan Wake II will surprise you with every weird twist and turn it takes – that’s why it is at the top of our list for games we recommend you play this holiday season.
SpiderMan: Miles Morales
Experience Miles’s story – slinging webs and zipping around a snow-covered Manhattan. SpiderMan: Miles Morales’s story takes place around the holidays, so you will see plenty of streets with Christmas lights and decorations. All of this makes this Spiderman adventure worth your time this holiday season.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Whether this is your 1000th time playing Skyrim or your first time (somehow), there is a reason this 2011 classic is still played and talked about to this day. Load up your favorite mods, or keep things vanilla, one thing is for sure: the snowy peaks of Skyrim make for one hell of a holiday game. Wandering snowy tundras while one of the most relaxing sound tracks serenade you is a an unforgettable time and one that is perfect for to experience over the holidays.
Wasteland 3
Without the Wasteland series, there would be no Fallout. History aside, Wasteland 3 is an awesome turn based RPG that takes place in a snowy post Nuclear Apocalypse Colorado. Experience impressive freedom of choice, satisfying turn based combat, and plenty of dark humor in this wintery RPG.
Yakuza Kiwami 1
A good chunk of the games in the Yakuza Series take place in December. While the first game in the series (or the Remake of the First Game in this case with Kiwami) does also take place around the holidays – the most memorable holiday moment takes place in Yakuza 5 where Taiga Saejima fights “Santa Hunters” while he is dressed up as Santa Claus. But, the story of Yakuza is so good that we think its best to get started with the first game (chronologically, well except for the prequel, Yakuza 0) in the series. Playing the game as it snows both in game and outside is great
